Tshechus, the best known of festivals, are celebrated to commemorate Guru Rinpoche’s great deeds. Tshechu, literally meaning the tenth day, offers an opportunity to gain merits through witnessing of various religious dances. A mere presence in a Tshechu is believed to bring good karma.
Tshechus are celebrated for several days. Certain Tshechus end with the worship of huge appliqué THONGDROE representing Guru Rinpoche and his eight Manifestations. Thongdroe deliverance from the cycle of reincarnations by a view of it. The other major festival that takes place every year is the Dromchoe, which generally celebrated with various dances and is dedicated to Yeshi Gompo (Mahakala) or Palden Lhamo (Mahakale), the two main protective deities of the Drukpas. They are also occasions for meeting people and social exchanges and a display of new and family heirlooms through vibrancy in attire and ornaments.
``call it a stimulating experience or cultural exchange, a trip to Bhutan is once in a lifetime experience. For American students their visit to Bhutan was a unique experience. It changed their entire perception of life and the society``
